I’ve been busy. No, I mean, really busy.

School ended at the end of last month, and so came the end of yet another semester with straight A’s. With a nineteen unit course-load, it was the hardest semester I’ve ever had and hopefully the hardest I’ll ever have. I won’t ever do that to myself again. Just plain stupid. I was so busy and stressed -out over my classes that I had to shirk many other responsibilities and quite literally stopped answering my phone for a month. It was the only way I could keep people from demanding what I couldn’t give: time. Of course, there’s more drama to that story…

Long story, short: My landlady is psychotic and a habitual liar and I’m giving up my beloved apartment to escape the bitch. If you want the long story, you’ll have to ask me in person… I’m just not in the mood to go into a rant tonight… and it really is a long, complicated story.

The Jeep is just about done! The famous Tri-County Gear has had it for the last week, and after nine months of it being non-functioning, I will finally be able to drive it again! I’m so stoked about getting it back, but the downside is that I’ll only be able to drive it for a couple weeks before I go to Maine.

Which brings me to my summer travel! I leave for a two-week visit with my father in Maine at the beginning of July. After that I come back home just long enough to get my apartment cleaned out, throw one last party and get my stuff into storage before I head off for a backpacking trip through China! Yup, you heard me. China.

I wasn’t going to travel much this summer since I wanted to keep my apartment at least one more year. Due to my psycho landlady, however, I’ve decided to give it up. If I gap my residency while I’m traveling, I can put my rent money toward my travels, so off I go to the next place on my list.

I’ve bought my ticket to Hong Kong, applied for a multiple entry Mainland China visa, gotten my first round of inoculations, and picked up antibiotics. I’m also packing my non-essentials into boxes and slowly transitioning my belongings to my storage unit. I feel like I’m going away for a year like Cristi… but it’s just for a month, until school starts.

At any rate… I’ve only got a few weekends here at the apartment, so I’m planning on two big parties… and everybody is invited. June 23, and July 21. The apartment in July will be looking quite sparse, probably just the fridge, my bed and the BBQ. If anybody needs to crash here, bring a sleeping bag and a ground pad if you have one (I’ve got a few loaners of each), I don’t want anybody driving home drunk at four in the morning… and yes, we are going at least that late. I’m sending out Evites in a few minutes. Invite your friends, and please try to contribute to the booze and food. ;)

I’ve been having problems with my CoppermineSC plugin slowing this site to a crawl — page requests would take up to 15 seconds! I’ve since gone through the plugin and stripped out everything I don’t use, and streamlined a few of the database queries. Things are running much more smoothly now that I’ve dropped over 50% of the code base!

I’ve also had issues with my WordPress database encoding. Many of the characters were coming up in very funky ways. I’ve gone through by hand and changed them all to the current encoding scheme. If anybody has any problems viewing the site, or sees a few characters that I’ve missed, please email me!

Not bad for a couple hours work. :)
